Kerala’s Local Self Government Department set 30 September 2026 as the end date for a waiver of penalty interest on property-tax arrears payable to local self-government institutions. The signed 18 September order discusses full payment of arrears during that window; it does not cancel the underlying tax. As the stated date has passed, a current local-body ledger and dated receipt matter more than the old waiver notice. BestProp.ai’s reading is limited to that order and the proof a buyer should request.
What the order covered
G.O.(Rt) No. 1765/2026/LSGD says penalty interest on property-tax arrears payable to local self-government institutions is waived through 30 September 2026 for taxpayers who fully pay the arrears. A Kerala local-body notice described the K-SMART Property Tax Module as the payment route for the stated period.
The order concerns penalty interest on arrears. It does not say that the principal property-tax balance is forgiven, and it does not establish that a particular owner made payment or that a property’s account is clear.
What to check after the stated date
For a resale review, ask the seller for a current property-tax account statement and the receipt for any arrears payment, then confirm that the account number and property details match the sale documents. If the ledger still shows a balance or the payment is recent, confirm its posting with the relevant local body before treating the account as settled. The government order alone cannot prove a specific property’s current balance.
The local-body notice repeats the September 30 period set in the order. This article does not claim that the waiver continued after the order’s stated end date. If a newer signed Government order is issued, that text—not an old notice or a portal display alone—would define any extension.
Keep arrears relief separate from current dues
A waiver of penalty interest on arrears should not be read as a general waiver of current-year property tax, future charges or other municipal obligations. Check the property’s own dated ledger for the relevant assessment periods and payment entries.
For a different jurisdiction and a separate payment calendar, see BestProp.ai’s Bengaluru property-tax deadline explainer. Kerala’s order and Bengaluru’s local-body schedule are not interchangeable.
Sources and scope
The controlling source is Kerala LSGD’s signed G.O.(Rt) No. 1765/2026/LSGD. The payment route and 30 September endpoint are also described in Adat Grama Panchayat’s 22 September public notice. Check the local-body account for any individual property; this article does not give tax or legal advice.
